Christmas Around the World: Vietnam/Thailand

Christmas Around the World: Vietnam/Thailand

It’s that special time of year again, where we push aside much of our normal homeschool work, and have a little more fun! This is our second year learning about Christmas traditions around the world, and we were so excited to dig in!

For Day 1, we decided to take it a little easy as mom just got back from over a week of traveling. We began by learning what the Vietnamese and Thai people do to celebrate Christmas.

As you may have guessed, Christmas is very commercialized as Christianity is not one of the main religions in Vietnam or Thailand. In fact, most people do not even realize the true meaning behind Christmas!

The Vietnamese and Thai people embrace joy and hope during the holiday season. Their cities become festive displays of lights and they like to gather with friends and family.

What We Did

We began our learning by reading a few articles online to hear how the people of Vietnam and Thailand celebrate Christmas.

YouTube is sometimes a major resource in our learning adventures. We watched the following videos:

Vietnam for Kids

Christmas in Vietnam

Thailand for Kids

Christmas in Thailand

We also learned that food in Vietnam is basically a combination of Chinese food and Thai food, so we decided to venture out for lunch and go to a Thai restaurant!

Stay tuned for Day 2 as we travel to…

Switzerland!
